Father sent to prison for assaulting daughter in north Cyprus

A man who was accused of allegedly abusing his 13-year-old daughter sexually in north Cyprus was sent to prison for 2 months.

The suspect, AS, 40 was accused of sexually assaulting his 13-year-old daughter while drunk at his home in Lefkosia on Feb. 6, 2024.

The man was paraded in court on Wednesday.

Police told the court that at around 11:00pm on Tuesday, Feb. 6, the suspect, who resides in the Küçük Kaymaklı area of Lefkosia, sexually abused his 13-year-old daughter after slapping her on the cheek while he was under the influence of alcohol.

Police said the girl left the house that night, called her friend on the street in panic and anxiety, told her about the incident, and her friend called the police, reported the situation and they went to the scene.

The child's statement was obtained in the presence of a social services officer, and was handed over to the Social Services Department together with her siblings, with whom she was staying with in the same house.

Police noted that the suspect had a criminal record of 5 files and 10 cases, and that the issue would have a public impact, and requested that he be detained before trial in court.

The judge then ordered the suspect to be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 2 months until trial.
