Woman hospitalised on arrival in south Cyprus after swallowing 1kg of cocaine

A 24-year-old woman from Brazil is hospitalised in Larnaca, south Cyprus after being arrested at the city’s airport on Saturday for drugs.

The woman was found to have swallowed a large quantity of cocaine destined for the Cypriot market.

According to philenews, the woman told members of the drugs squad (YKAN) that she had swallowed 164 packages containing about a kilo of cocaine.

She has so far excreted about 40 of them and is under constant medical supervision. If any of the packages break, her life will be in immediate danger.

The 24-year-old arrived at Larnaca Airport from Brazil via Doha on Saturday morning, when members of YKAN, in cooperation with the Customs Authorities, stopped her for inspection.

They searched her luggage but found nothing suspicious. The woman then admitted that she had packages containing cocaine inside her body.

She was taken to Larnaca General Hospital for an X-ray, which confirmed that she was carrying several foreign bodies in her body. She was kept in the hospital for treatment.

The woman was arrested and remanded in custody for eight days by the Larnaca District Court in a hearing held at Larnaca General Hospital.

Interpol has been informed about the case, and the 24-year-old’s contacts are being investigated to identify the recipients of the drugs in Cyprus.
