Woman who allegedly forced a person into prostitution in north Cyprus released on bail

A woman who is alleged to have forced a 25-year-old woman into prostitution in Lefkosia has been released on bail and to face trial in the future. 

The suspect named only as SG, 30 a Turkish national is alleged to have forced one 25-year-old Ç.S. into prostitution.

She was arrested and taken to the Lefkosia Judicial court on April 4 on charges of "inciting prostitution".

She was brought back to court again on Monday, April, 8.

Police told the court that the suspect earned 6,100 TL by enabling 25-year-old Ç.S. to have sexual intercourse with 7 different men in Lefkosia between 27 March and 4 April 2024.

Police announced that two clear statements were obtained about the arrested suspect. Police stated that the necessary investigation was carried out and requested that the suspect be placed on an appropriate guarantee for the crime of "encouraging prostitution".

The suspect's lawyer stated that his client was a single mother with 3 children, that she had started a new job, and that if she was put on detention, she would lose her job and there would be no one left to look after her children, and requested a trial without detention.

The judge who evaluated the testimony given in court ordered the suspect to be tried without detention, on the condition that she is prohibited from going abroad, pays a cash guarantee of 10,000 TL and that a guarantor signs a surety bond of 50,000 TL.
