Student jumps out of apartment window following a chase by the police in north Cyprus

A student ran into an apartment and jumped out through a window after he was stopped on the road by a team of police who wanted to check his ID due to his suspicious movement.

The incident happened at around 11:00pm on Saturday June 8 in  Gönyeli when the individual, named as OA, a Nigerian student was stopped by a team of Crime Prevention police who were patrolling in Gönyeli.

Police said he was walking suspiciously on the road when they decided to check his ID. The suspect ran away and first entered an apartment building and then jumped out of the window of the apartment corridor. 

He was caught and determined to be living in the country without a resident permit. He was taken to court on Sunday.

Police told the court that the suspect entered an apartment building when he noticed the teams, and then jumped out of the window of the apartment corridor after the police followed him.

Police stated that the suspect, who jumped from the second floor, was caught at the scene and taken to the Lfkoosia State Hospital for a health check.

During the immigration check, it was determined that the suspect had been residing in the TRNC without a resident permit for 1,288 days since November 19, 2020.

The police stated that an investigation had been launched against the arrested suspect, that an investigation would be carried out at the Immigration Office, and that what he did during the time he was not allowed to reside in the country would be investigated, and asked that he be detained for 2 days.
