Two students detained for selling duty-free goods and illegal residency

Two young ladies were held in detention by Turkish Cypriot police after they were arrested for having duty free goods and staying in north Cyprus without a resident permit.

The two suspects, EPK, 35 (f) and TFF, 30 (f) who are both African students in north Cyprus were arrested at around 11;30pm on Monday July 8 in an apartment located on Küçük Ümraniye Street, in Gönyeli, where they reside.

Police said they were arrested for "disposal of duty-free goods and staying in the TRNC without a residence permit".

They were bought to court on Tuesday.

Police said a total of 165 pieces of various women's clothing, which were determined to be duty-free, were found and taken as evidence as a result of the search carried out by the police.

Police stated that the investigation into the suspects had been completed and requested that they be sent to prison.

The judge ordered that the suspects be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 20 days.
