Turkish national, others arrested for illegal residency in the TRNC

A Turkish man has been arrested and detained for residing in the TRNC illegally without a resident permit for two year.

The suspect, named only as MNÖ was detected and arrested by the Crime Prevention Branch in the Lefkosia Industrial Zone at around 7.20pm on Friday, September 29, 2023.

He was taken to court on Saturday on charges of illegal residency in the TRNC.

Police said the suspect was found to have been living illegally in the TRNC for 976 days since January 26, 2021.

Noting that there were statements to be taken from the Ministry of Internal Affairs regarding the issue, the police requested that the suspect be detained for 2 days.

In a similar development, two more people were also arrested on Friday for living in the country without residence permit.

Legal proceedings were initiated against them.
